The Boston College and Notre Dame football teams will play the evening of Nov. 21, 2015, at Fenway Park, the Red Sox announced Friday. It will be the first football game at the historic ballpark since Dec. 1, 1968, when the Patriots wrapped up a five-year stint of using Fenway as their home field.
“The City of Boston will be ready to welcome Fighting Irish and Eagles fans alike when Fenway brings this historic rivalry to one of our most beloved landmarks in 2015,” Mayor Thomas M. Menino said in a statement from the Red Sox. “I’m looking forward to a memorable weekend that puts Boston, and all the great things our city has to offer, in the national spotlight.”
Although the game is in Boston, Notre Dame will be considered the home team, as it’s part of the school’s “Shamrock Series” — off-site games Notre Dame has hosted in various American cities since 2009. Previous stops include San Antonio, New York and Chicago.
BC and Notre Dame will play at Fenway in hockey next month, with the teams scheduled to meet on Jan. 4 as part of City Frozen Fenway 2014.
