Trevor Cooney scored 21 points and second-ranked Syracuse rallied after trailing by eight points early in the second half to grab a 69-59 victory over Boston College on Monday night at Conte Forum.
Lonnie Jackson scored 18 points for the Eagles (5-12), hitting six 3-pointers. Ryan Anderson scored 14 points and Olivia Hanlan had 13 points and six assists.
Jerami Grant contributed 16 points and nine rebounds for the Orange (17-0).
Trailing 35-30 after Syracuse’s Tyler Ennis (12 points, six steals) opened the second half with a 3-pointer, BC went on a 17-4 run fueled by the long-range shooting of Jackson and Joe Rahon and the inside play of Anderson. An Anderson layup just over five minutes into the period gave BC its biggest lead at 47-39.
However, Syracuse answered with a 21-4 run to regain control. The Orange’s 2-3 zone gave the Eagles fits, leading to 16 BC turnovers (13 Syracuse steals).
BC played without center Dennis Clifford, who had played the last two games after sitting out the early part of the season with knee problems.
The Eagles next play at North Carolina on Saturday at noon.
