Andre Williams among BC trio named ACC Players of the Week

Boston College running back Andre Williams, offensive lineman Matt Patchan and kicker Nate Freese received recognition from the ACC on Monday for their performances in Saturday’s 29-26 victory over Maryland.

Williams, the Offensive Back of the Week, rushed 32 times for for 263 yards Saturday to become the first player in ACC history and 15th in FBS history to surpass the 2,000-yard mark in a single season. Williams has 2,073 yards and 16 touchdowns on 320 carries this season.

Williams made his yards count as well. He scored on a 72-yard touchdown run with 10:33 left in the fourth quarter to draw the Eagles within four points. In the final minute, with the game tied, he broke free for 36 yards to set up Freese’s game-winning field goal.

Freese, the ACC Specialist of the Week, drilled a 52-yarder as time expired. It was his third field goal of the game and matched his career long. He also hit a 35-yard PAT following a penalty in the fourth quarter, and as the team’s punter averaged 43.4 yards per punt.

Freese is 17-for-17 on field goals this season.

Patchan helped clear holes for Williams, grading out at 86 percent with two knockdown blocks. The BC running game is averaging 220 yards per contest, which ranks them second in the ACC and 21st among FBS teams.
