Boston College basketball coach Steve Donahue was fired by first-year athletic director Brad Bates, the school announced Tuesday afternoon.
The news was first reported by ESPN’s Jeff Goodman.
A Sports Illustrated report last week indicated that Donahue had been told he would return for a fifth season, but BC refused to confirm that story.
The Eagles were 8-24 this season, 4-14 in the ACC, despite predictions that they would improve on last season’s 16-17 record with a veteran lineup. The season ended Wednesday with an overtime loss to Georgia Tech in the opening round of the ACC tournament.
Donahue had one more year remaining on the five-year contract he signed after being lured from Cornell in 2010.
